This precious treasure of French colonial architecture is unique in its type. Built in 1885, this lovely house was carefully restored to keep its original design and distribution and is open to the public.
Built in 2004 on what it used to be the Estero del Bravo, this park is one of the most important cultural spaces of Matamoros. In here you can find an immense structure called “La Gran Puerta de Mexico” (Mexico’s great door), created by the worldwide famous sculptor Sebastián. The Casamata Museum of Regional History was erected in a property built in 1865, which worked as a military fortress, munitions storehouse and saddler warehouse until it started working as a museum in December 30th 1970.
Its objective is to let people know the historical events that affected the development of the northern side of the state of Tamaulipas through photos, documents and objects that belonged to famous characters like Benito Juarez and Francisco Villa.
These days, the Casamata Museum is an architectural piece that reminds the locals the pride of their past and the greatness of their present.
In October 2005 the Municipal Art Gallery opened its doors with the objective of giving plastic and visual artists of Matamoros a place to promote their work, becoming the most important space to promote visual arts in Matamoros.
Costa Azul Beach is 27 km east Matamoros, approximately 20 minutes away through an excellent road infrastructure. It is a clean beach, ideal to practice fishing and water sports. In this natural precinct you can practice sports fishing and even bird watching in the different islands of this wonderful port; 72 km away from Matamoros you can find the port El Mezquital, a dock for small boats. The main economic activity of many families there is the exploitation of the marine fauna of the place; you can enjoy a delicious meal prepared by the inhabitants of the islands and even a boat ride.
Many celebrations and events have been held in this place, in addition to official acts hosted by the municipalities, governors and political chiefs.
The Reforma Theatre was used as a movie theatre where silent films where shown. In 1992 it was re-inaugurated looking the way it looks these days. Even when it’s different to the original, it has materials, seats, floors, acoustic and other first-quality services.
